MANILA, Philippines – Groups advocating the rights of health workers and people’s rights to health services are set to present today their agenda to Health Secretary Enrique Ona.
Members of the Health Alliance for Democracy (HEAD) and the Aliiance of Health Workers (AHW) said they will sit in a dialogue with Ona and discuss the so-called “people’s health agenda.”
“The country still suffers from a dire health situation. What we have is a neglected public health system where health services are being commercialized instead of being made available to the majority of poor Filipinos. In fact, seven out of 10 Filipinos die without medical attention and diseases known to have been found their cure still take of the lives many of our helpless and poor countrymen,” the non-government organizations said in a statement.
HEAD and AHW members will troop to the Department of Health compound in Manila to meet with Ona around 8 a.m. today after the flag ceremonies.
