BRUTUS by Tara Illenberger

Recruited by illegal loggers to haul timber through the forests and carry them by water to faraway destinations, laborers known as “Brutus” – many of whom are mere juveniles – are displaced from their native land to work for the very people destroying their communities. Brutus tells the tale of two Mangyan children on a dangerous journey to smuggle wood from the mountains of Mindoro to the lowlands. In the process, they discover a world run by the greed of men, a world governed by ideologies that provoke the armed conflict plaguing the home of their people.
