Far from the Philippine mainland, once-wealthy islanders go through economic hardship when a goldmine company withdraws from the area. The people’s routine of everyday drinking changes one day when a Canadian woman comes to visit. An allusion to the destructive effects of mining in Marinduque, the film explores the pain Philippine communities goes through in the constant struggle to strike a balance between economic development and environmental degradation.
