1. “EXPLICIT AND ILLICIT: Short Films on the Edge”
Introduced by Joel Shepard; Film/Video Curator, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
This diverse shorts program features filmmakers who creatively use
explicit sexual subject matter. Sexy, weird, funny, disturbing, and
even confrontational, the films will both challenge and change you.
For mature audiences only. (90 minutes)

JOEL SHEPARD, Film/Video Curator, became YBCA’s first full-time Film/Video Curator in July 1997, after serving as Associate Director for the San Francisco Cinematheque. Prior to that, Shepard was Assistant Director of the Minnesota Film Society in Minneapolis, and Film/Video Curator of Film in the Cities in St. Paul. He was named “Best Local Film Programmer” by the SF Weekly. He regularly attends the Rotterdam, Berlin and Pusan film festivals, and recently served on the jury for CineManila. Shepard is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.


VANJA KALUDJERCIC was born in Pula, Croatia. She studied Comparative Literature and Cultural Sociology at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She lives and works in Paris, France.

Vanja has worked at Radio Student Ljubljana, Motovun Film Festival in Croatia and for several years has worked on different projects at Slovenian Cinematheque and art-house cinema Kinodvor, Ljubljana. In 2004, in collaboration with colleagues from the Cinematheque, she was organizing Isola Cinema – a film festival dedicated to African, Asian, Latin American and Eastern European cinema.

For a couple of years Vanja ran and programmed the Human Rights Film Festival in Zagreb, Croatia. From 2006 until 2008 she managed ZagrebDox Pro – a workshop and pitching forum developed for regional professionals at the International Documentary Festival of Zagreb. She also worked at Hulahop Film and Art production company, mainly in charge of production management of World Festival of Animated Films – Animafest Zagreb.

In 2009, Vanja took a Script Development & Editing Lab – Creative Collaboration – a yearlong workshop initiated by the Sarajevo Film Festivals CineLink partnered with a London based script development company The Script Factory and the British Council.

Untill recently Vanja was working in Paris at Coproduction Office where she is in charge of acquisitions for features films. Today she is programming New Current Short film section at Sarajevo Film Festival and runs its platform for short film promotion – Minimarket.
